JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- A Missouri committee designed to encourage people to fill out census forms has approved a plan to spend more than $400,000 on public relations and advertising.
Missouri's Complete Count Committee plans public service announcements on television, radio and in movie theaters.
Census ads also are slotted for buses in Kansas City, St. Joseph and St. Louis, and in ethnic newspapers.
Missouri lottery tickets also are to feature a message encouraging people to fill out census forms.
The forms are to be distributed in spring.
The population count is used to decide how many members of Congress each state receives.
It also is used for distributing about $300 billion in federal funds.
In 2000, 69 percent of Missouri households filled out census forms.
