KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Thanksgiving is just around the corner and many of us will be heading to the grocery store to pick up all the fixings for the big meal.
And our Fact Finder team has learned that this year, consumers will catch a little bit of a break at the grocery store. According to the annual Missouri Farm Bureau study, Missouri shoppers can purchase a Thanksgiving meal big enough to feed 10 people and still have some leftovers for $42.57. That's down $1.93 from the cost last year.
Fact Finder discovered that price is based on a menu that includes all the traditional thanksgiving favorites: a 16 lb. turkey, stuffing made from pre-seasoned cubes, three lbs. of sweet potatoes, a 12 oz. package of fresh cranberries, carrot and celery sticks, frozen peas, rolls with butter, two pumpkin pies with whipped cream and milk and coffee.
Officials tell Fact Finder the lower cost for Thanksgiving dinner this year is due to a drop in energy cost for growing, processing and shipping the products.
