DES MOINES -- Iowa's court system will have fewer workers. It's part of more budget cuts from the state. 105 employees will be layed off, 100 vacant staff positions cut and hours will be reduced for 58 employees. District 8, which covers southeast Iowa, will see 6 layoffs and 8 vacant positions eliminated.
“Well there will be long delays and gaps in services and reduction in public access to the courts with these cuts,” said Steve Davis, communications officer for Iowa’s judicial branch. “A cut of this magnitude will directly and severely reduce the court services that are available to the public.”
In district eight alone, 12 employees will have reduced hours.
