OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The City of Ottumwa has a number of boards and commissions that perform a variety of advisory and regulatory functions. There are currently vacancies on two commissions. Citizens interested in serving on a board or commission are encouraged to apply. The following is a list of committees with openings:
Human Rights Commission - 2 vacancies. Members serve 3-year terms. This Commission promotes and safeguards civil rights in Ottumwa through mediation, advocacy and education.
Plan & Zoning Commission – 2 vacancies. Members serve 5-year terms. The Planning Commission reviews development plans and advises the city council on the city’s growth and development.
Citizen participation on these boards and commissions does require a commitment of time and effort. Appointments to these boards and commissions are made by the mayor and approved by the Ottumwa City Council. Any resident of Ottumwa who is interested in serving on one of the boards or commissions should request an application form from Barb Sasseen, on the first floor at City Hall.
