ATLANTA, MO. -- A smalltown northeast Missouri mayor is dead at the age of 46 after suffering an apparent heart attack.
Atlanta Mayor Kenny Wilhelm died Wednesday night.
Wilhelm had been mayor of Atlanta since April of this year.
Prior to that, he had been mayor pro tem and served on the Atlanta Board of Aldermen.
City officials told KTVO they're completely shocked by Wilhelm's passing and that he will be greatly missed around AtlantaCity Hall.
Atlanta Mayor Pro Tem Melinda "Mini" Baker was Wilhelm's next door neighbor.
“He was a great father. He loves his children, would do anything for them. He was always out in the yard, had an immaculate garden, made mine look really bad (laughter)," said Baker.
Visitation for Wilhelm is set for 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Macon.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Wilhelm Children's College Fund.
