SHENANDOAH, IOWA (AP) -- A 65-year-old woman from Shenandoah in southwestern Iowa has died in a house fire.

Officials say Karen Beecher died early Sunday after firefighters found her in a bedroom. Fire officials say she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shenandoah Fire Chief Steve Hoefing says Beecher reported the fire at the home. Officials say firefighters found a hot, smoky
kitchen blaze when they arrived. The fire chief says the home did not have working smoke detectors.

The cause of the blaze is undetermined but state fire officials say they're investigating.
