KIRKSVILLE, MO --
Dumped off donations are causing big problems for the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Kirksville.
For the last several months, people have dropped stuff off behind the strip mall where the store is located. That's property the Salvation Army doesn't own, and they're about to be slapped with a fine from the city. The store had to put a dumpster back there to clean up the donations that have been ruined, which is costing them big money.
“That’s money that we could be using in the salvation army programs, to help people get the clothing they need in the store, to get the good that we need to give people their food baskets, to help people with their rent and utilities, and when we're having to pay out extra money like that, it hurts the bottom line,” said Major William Hogg.
Large donations should be dropped inside the store during business hours, or you can put them in the lobby which is open 24 hours a day.
