FAIRFIELD, IOWA --

The Jefferson County Farmers and Neighbors, or JFAN organization held its annual meeting in Fairfield Wednesday.

“This is kind of catch up of information for our members and the community, we're a non-profit organization and our main goal is education and we specifically deal with the issue of animal confinement particularly in Southeast Iowa hog confinements,” said President Jim Rubis.

The agenda included “The Economics, Politics, and Future of CAFOs,” or confined animal feeding operations. But, it isn't just members of JFAN who attend the meetings.

“It can be city people, it can be rural people, it can be farmers, whoever. We usually get some attendance at our meetings from people who are in the pork industry who are supporters of pork confinement, and we entertain discussion with them,” Rubis said.

The program included presentations by four agriculture professionals.
