OTTUMWA, IA -- Ottumwa kids applied their writing skills to the real world when they rewrote restaurant menus.
Kids in Ms. Kristi Ridgeway's fourth grade class worked on a class project this year to make their own Pizza Hut menus.
Monday night, the children were able to come to the restaurant and order off the re-worded menus.
Their teacher says the project was designed to teach the students to apply their writing skills.
The kids say they learned about adjectives, and had fun doing it.
We put adjectives together to make these menus and we had to write them with the computer and everything we did was just to have fun,” explained Christian Cruz, a student in the class.
Each student helped, rewriting the descriptions for an existing menu item.
“I did the spicy Asian wings. It's far-east flavors dipped in an incredible, fresh, tasty, sweet sauce. I also did steak and cheese hoagie,” said Leslie Saunders, pointing to her contribution.
While Pizza Hut will not use the menus after tonight, the kids get to keep them as souvenirs.
