KIRKSVILLE, MO --
Area bikers put on their bras Saturday for a breast cancer awareness poker ride.
Riders who were brave enough to wear a bra on the ride were eligible to win a prize. The “Riding for a Cure Against Breast Cancer Poker Ride” is a fundraiser for a very special cause. Each year a local family takes part in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in memory of Norma Scott.
“For us, it's very personal, my mom was affected at a very young age. She was 35 when she was diagnosed and she later passed on at 43 and it just goes to show you that younger people are affected by this disease and we really want to get the word out there and make people aware of it and help to fund research because it is so important and we would really like to see a cure someday,” said Team Member Branda Bailey.
“Team Norma" has raised more than $35,000 over the past three years for breast cancer awareness and research. The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer also provides treatment money for those patients who are uninsured.
