KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Thursday some Heartland residents can receive the seasonal flu vaccine without leaving your car.

Each year the Adair County Health Department offers the vaccine at no cost to hundreds of county residents.

“If you get your flu shot, it helps prevent you from, of course getting the flu and to have other types of medical problems as a result of getting the flu,” said Lori Guffey, R.N.

The clinic is also used as an exercise for local emergency management officials to simulate the Federal Government’s “Strategic National Stockpile.”  The SNS is used in the case of a widespread pandemic influenza, terrorist attack, or other large disaster.

If you plan to go to the clinic here's what you need to know.  The hours are 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  You should enter from the east gate at the NEMO Fair Grounds.  The vaccine is free to Adair County residents four years of age and older.  If available you're asked to bring your Medicare or Medicaid card and wear short sleeves.

If you can’t make it Thursday, the health department will offer other clinics at their office Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and from 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. until they’re out of the vaccine.  Those are also free to Adair County residents.
