KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The Kirksville Arts Association honored a local artist Sunday.
Clara Straight of Yarrow, Missouri has been painting all her life, and still continues her artwork even though she's now in her nineties.
Straight has lived in the area nearly her whole life, and still runs a farm near Yarrow.
She said much of her artwork portrays the land she has known since her youth.
“My folks came to Missouri from Iowa when I was six weeks old and I've really lived there ever since, although I've taught all my life, too. But I'm very well acquainted with the farm, every little nook and cranny there. So it comes natural to find something to paint,” she said.
She also said that most of her artwork portrays farm scenes and nature. However, she says she paints people, too, when requested.
Straight has taught art at schools across the country, including Cornell University.
