KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Hospice of Northeast Missouri held its 14th annual Lights of Life Luminary Service Saturday night.

The service began with a live dove release at the Veteran's Memorial Roadside Park in Kirksville, Mo. Community members could purchase doves or luminaries in honor of a loved one who has passed away.

“The luminary is a celebration of life, in honor of those still with us and in memory of those who have passed on before us,” said Hospice Director Stephanie Byrum.

The Lights of Life Luminary Service is a fundraiser benefiting the United Way of Adair County. Organizers say they raised $1,000 this year.
