Cell Phones for Soldiers recycles old cell phones and uses the money to donate calling cards to the troops. Each phone
The program started when teenagers Robbie and Brittany Bergquist from Norwell, Massachusetts donated $21 of their own money. A few years later the program has raised over $2 million.
“I think the more that we can do for our military and their families, there was this one article that I read in here that a father was able to call his 7 year old some that was over seas and I thought that was wonderful. Things like that is what we need to do, we need to show as much support as we can for our troops,” said Jan Watts.
Watts says she will continue to collect the phones or calling cards as long as they’re needed.
There are two local drop-offs in Northeast Missouri. One is at the Bank of Macon and the other at Cole Motor Sales and Cycles in Bevier.
Cole Motor Sales and Cycles is open Tuesday through Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Bank of Macon is open Monday – Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
