KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Developers with a large wind energy project are getting closer to beginning operation in Northeast Missouri.
TradeWind Energy met with the Adair County commissioners today to discuss the progress of the Shuteye Creek Wind Project.
“We met with county commissioners today to talk about the Enhanced Enterprise Zone in the county. And what we’re trying to do is foster business development here for renewable power and wind energy,” said TradeWind Energy Development Manager Reed Bartels.
Developers are working on an Enhanced Enterprise Zone in both Sullivan and Adair counties.
“We’re hoping for a level playing field in both counties that will allow us to locally and regionally sell the power,” said Reed.
The project is expected to involve 60 landowners and 30,000 acres. Over the past five years, the company has conducted numerous environmental and meteorological studies of the land involved in the project. If the project becomes reality, not only could it generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax revenue each year, but it will provide enough power for about 90,000 Missouri households.
Reed says they’re hoping to hold public hearings soon to inform the community on further details about the project.
