Missouri’s 9th District Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer is optimistic that after the congressional recess, Democrats and Republicans will work out a compromise on healthcare reform.
During an interview with KTVO, Congressman Luetkemeyer said contrary to popular belief, Republicans do want reform and have ideas on how to reach change in the system.
He says so far, President Obama has ignored Republican ideas, but has recently opened the door to initiate conversation with conservatives.
Over the weekend, the president made a comment that he's willing to at least abandon the public option for the time being, if that's what it takes to start the dialogue.
"If that's the case, he's suddenly taken a step in our direction. Where we're willing...and we've always been willing to work with the president. We've had our ideas out there every single program that he's put forward, whether it's the stimulus package or the energy tax; we've always had an alternative that's full of ideas that we believe would be very helpful in improving the situation,” Luetkemeyer said.
