MACON, MO. -- KTVO has recently received reports of two confirmed cases of the H1-N1 virus, or swine flu, in Macon County.
Viewers contacted us saying a notice was posted last week at a Macon nursing home, alerting residents and staff of the cases of H1-N1.
We called the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to see if those cases had been confirmed by the state. State officials told KTVO they have not received notification of any confirmed cases of swine flu in Macon County.
KTVO then contacted Macon County Health Department Administrator Judy Rushton. She said the reason those cases aren't on file with the state is because the people are Macon County residents, but they were hospitalized out of state when they first became ill.
Rushton says there are also confirmed cases of Influenza A in Macon County, something health officials don't usually see until later in the fall. She encourages residents to practice good hygiene like frequently washing your hands. She also says you should stay home from work or school and contact your doctor if you develop a fever and cough or other flu-like symptoms.
