KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- If you suffered damage as a result of the tornado, storms and flooding in May, your time to register for federal disaster aid is running out.
Our Fact Finder team has learned the deadline to register for individual assistance is Tuesday, August 18. As of Wednesday, 149 residents in Adair County have registered with FEMA for individual assistance.
FEMA officials tell Fact Finder they encourage everyone to complete the registration process, no matter the extent of their damage. They also say you should register even if you've already filed with your insurance company.
“FEMA can cover underinsured losses as well as uninsured losses. So if a few months down the road you find out you're underinsured after you settle you can still qualify for money as long as you register during this time period,” said public information officer Tim Walker
August 18 is also the deadline to submit a loan application to the U.S. Small Business Administration. Walker tells Fact Finder storm victims should also fill out that loan packet because it could qualify them for FEMA grants.
If you still need to register for aid you can do that by calling 1-800-621-3362 or logging on to www.disasterassistance.gov.
