(OTTUMWA, Iowa) - Ottumwa firefighters are raising money to help educate kids about fire safety.

For years, the Ottumwa Fire Department has used the FIREPUP program designed by the National Fire Safety Council.

The program offers a variety of material designed to appeal to children.

Ottumwa firefighters tell KTVO that they believe that fire education for children does prevent tragic fire loss and death.

The program is not cheap, so the department is looking for sponsors.

Materials for 20 children can be purchased for $52, for 200 children the cost is $520.

Individuals or organizations that would like to purchase some materials can do so by contacting the Ottumwa Fire Department at 641-683-0666.
