DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa veterans are demanding more parking be provided for a Des Moines memorial to World War I to make it easier for them to visit the site.
The Iowa Gold Star Monument is across the street from a park and next to Iowa Lutheran Hospital.
Veteran Gerald LeBlanc says the only parking is in the hospital lot, and it's difficult for elderly visitors to make the walk.
According to LeBlanc, visitors have to add about 30 minutes to the time they plan to use to get to the memorial because they have to park so far away.
LeBlanc is scheduled to speak next week at the Des Moines City Council meeting to ask the city for closer parking.
The memorial has 165 names of Des Moines veterans who died in World War I.
