KIRKSVILLE, MO --

A local man injured in a farming accident Monday has improved. Officials at University Hospital in Columbia say Dennis Phelps has been upgraded from serious to fair condition.

Authorities say Phelps was injured on Monday when he was caught in the pickup auger of his combine. It took nearly 20 minutes for emergency personnel to free Phelps from the combine.  He was flown by Air Evac to University Hospital in Columbia. Kirksville Fire Department, Adair County Sheriff's Office and Novinger-Northern Fire Department all responded to the incident.
