OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Ottumwa's new Salvation Army captains are hitting the ground running.
Captains AmyJo and Paul Ferguson recently moved to town after serving at the Salvation Army in Fairmont, Minn.
They’re spending their first days on the job getting to know their way around the city and learning all about the people of Ottumwa.
Captain Paul told KTVO that he hopes they can lend a helping hand to those who have been affected by the tough economic times.
"I know that this is a really hard-hit county and just traveling around a little bit and meeting the few people in the short few days that we've been here. You can sense that there are some real struggles and so hopefully we can fit in there somewhere," said Captain Paul Ferguson.
He plans to upgrade the computer room at the new Salvation Army building so residents can use it as a place to job search and send out resumes.
The Ferguson's appointment to the Ottumwa church will be the fourth Salvation Army they've served.
