KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A Kirksville man is behind bars after authorities say he assaulted and seriously injured another man this weekend.

The incident took place early Sunday morning in Kirksville.

Joshua Blum, 20, of Kirksville is charged with first degree assault, a class A felony. He's being held at the Adair County Jail on $100,000 cash only bond.

The victim, Thomas Schonhardt, suffered a broken nose, broken air passages, fractured eye sockets and a fractured jaw. Court documents obtained by KTVO say Blum admitted to striking Schonhardt.

Blum told Kirksville police officers he was upset with Schonhardt for being with his girlfriend.
