KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Kirksville Police had to use a taser to get a Kirksville man under control after he allegedly beat up his wife.

Police say Joshua W. Craig, 27, hit his wife in the face and then tried to stop her from leaving with their 18-month-old-child.

Craig allegedly broke his wife's car window out as she tried to get away after the couple got into a fight that turned violent. Craig told the police that he reached in and opened the car door from the inside.

According to the police report, his wife had tried to flee after being beaten by Craig, but she eventually got away.

Police also say Craig tried to break the window of the police cruiser and that's when the officer had to use the taser on him.

On Thursday Craig was charged with domestic assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and resisting arrest. He is in the Adair county jail on a $25,000 cash only bond.
