HANNIBAL, Mo. (AP) - One of the few statues in the world depicting fictional characters will be rededicated on Saturday in Hannibal.

The Tom and Huck statue at the foot of Cardiff Hill was originally dedicated in 1926. The rededication is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. The statue depicts Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, fictional boys made famous in the works of Mark Twain, who grew up in Hannibal.

The foundation and the wall behind the statue were declared unsound in 2006. Original cement walls have been replaced with a more natural surrounding.

Hundreds of thousands of visitors come to Hannibal each year to visit Mark Twain's boyhood home and other tourism sites.
