A week ago Wednesday deadly twisters ripped through Adair and Sullivan County.

The damage was extensive and local disaster relief groups are calling for back-up.

The Red Cross contacted the Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief Group to help with clean-up efforts.

“We provide equipment and volunteers, trained volunteers to come in and help with recovery efforts particularly in this case we're looking at three and limb debris that residents need assistance with getting removed and cleaned up from their properties,” said Missouri Baptist Relief Group Director of Missions Randy Ewart.

The group is holding a temporary office in the First Baptist Church in Kirksville.

The chain saw brigade and mud crew plan to stay at least through the weekend.  Thursday they're expected to have almost 40 men with chain saws ready to assist the victims.

“We believe that we're under biblical mandate as born again Christians to help render assistance to our neighbors.  So according to scriptures we offer a cup of cold water in Jesus' name and so we believe Jesus paid the price for everything that needs to be done and so we come in and offer assistance.  It's a free of charge service we provide and we just do it because we love our Lord,” said Ewart.

If you or someone you know would like to use their help, you can call them at 660-627-2273.  They are also looking for more volunteers.
