OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Ice cream could be all it takes to bring in enough money for some much-needed equipment for the Ottumwa Fire Department.

The Evans Middle School Student Council is holding their annual Fire & Ice fundraiser at the Ottumwa Fire Department on Tuesday night. They'll serve ice cream with all the fixings to community member from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00.

Students hope to raise $2,000 so fire crews can purchase two ice rescue suits, which cost about $800 a piece.

The group also has a plan for any additional money they raise.

"They need special life preservers. So we're going to use the extra money that hopefully we'll raise with the community's support to buy these special life preservers for ice rescues," said Evans Student Council Advisor Connie Wilson.

Bowls of ice cream cost $3 for one or $5 for two.

Firefighters will be on hand to give tours around the station and to show of their trucks.
