NOVINGER, MO --
In light of the recent damage to Novinger, Missouri caused by Wednesday night's tornado and Friday's flooding, the City of Novinger has decided to suspend this year's Coal Miner Days.
Coal Miner Days is an annual event in which the town celebrates its heritage over Memorial Day weekend. This year would have been the 23rd year for the event, which is put on by Novinger Renewal.
“All of our folks need to put their lives back together. We didn't feel it was time for a benefit or something to benefit our organization, but we want make sure the community has time to heal,” said instead of Coal Miner Days, a dinner will be held at the Novinger Community Center at noon on May 23,” said Danny Ellsworth, Novinger Renewal President.
Everyone is invited to bring a covered dish. Meat, drinks, and tableware will be provided. Ellsworth says the community dinner will be a chance for everyone to get together and talk about everything that's happened over the last week. The Alumni Banquet will still be held Saturday night as planned.
