CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) - The annual Fourth of July fireworks show in Charles City is moving after last year's accident that injured dozens of spectators.
Last summer, 37 people were injured during the fireworks display in a downtown parking lot. State investigators say the initial explosion was likely caused when a shell malfunctioned, sending a fireball into the crowd.
Veronica Litterer, the city's community development director, recommended the new site for safety reasons. She also says a new location was needed because a gas station is being built on the former site.
