KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Over 700 people in Kirksville spent their Friday night fighting cancer.
The 11th annual Adair County Relay for Life took place at the NEMO fairgrounds. Activities got underway at 6 p.m. Friday and lasted until 6 a.m. Saturday.
Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's signature fundraiser. Organizers say Relays are held in over 3,500 communities across the country, and there's something very special about the event.
“What it does, it's an all common cause. We're all joining in trying to raise funds so we can find a cure for cancer. Because cancer knows no limits or boundaries. It doesn't know any class of people or financial, you know. It just, it's there and it attacks all of us,” said Event Chair Cathy Creason.
the fundraising goal for this year's Relay was $40,000. Creason says they were just shy of meeting that goal Friday night, raising over $39, 500.
But she says the Adair County Relay for Life will continue to take donations through June, and she does expect to hit that $40,000 mark. If you'd like to make a donation click here.
