OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Ottumwa's long-time finance director is leaving the job.

After seventeen years City Finance Director Mike Heffernan told KTVO that he's ready to start a new chapter in his life.

Pretty soon he'll be drinking up all kinds of new responsibilities as Ottumwa Water and Hydro's general manager.

He is scheduled to start there on May 11.

"One of my goals is to try to gain control of the business side of operations first and make sure the billings are being done correctly and the cash management is being properly handled,” Heffernan said.

Heffernan has been working as the city's finance director for seventeen years.
