(OTTUMWA, Iowa) - There is no doubt electrical rates are going up in the City of Bridges.

But Ottumwa business owners will have a chance to ask questions of Alliant officials.

Chamber Director Terry McNitt has organized a question and answer session on Wednesday at the Bridge View Center.

McNitt said in a press release that local businesses are under significant pressure and that a big rate increase will add to those pressures.

For its part Alliant argues that the increase, which could push 17-percent in some cases, is necessary. Floods, ice storms and emission control measures cited by the company as reasons the increase is necessary.

The meeting will be held at the Bridge View Center Auditorium from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. Wednesday.
