KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Northeast Missouri Health Council in Kirksville is getting an economic shot in the arm, thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The local community health center is on the receiving end of a $291,284 grant to expand services.
Executive Director James Ragland told KTVO the Health Council will use the funds to hire two new physicians, a family practitioner and a pediatrician, so its clinics can treat more patients.
"We currently have the only pediatric service between Ottumwa and Columbia, and our (two) pediatricians now are really overbooked as far as being able to see kids," said Ragland.
In Iowa, the River Hills Community Health Center in Ottumwa is set to get $204,547 in Recovery Act funds.
We tried calling the executive director to find out how the money will be spent in southeast Iowa, but he is out of town until Monday.
