LOCKRIDGE, IOWA -- Just hours after Sunday morning services, a building collapsed onto a neighboring Heartland church.
The old gymnasium of the Lockridge School collapsed around 2 p.m. Sunday, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to the Lockridge Baptist Church. Lockridge Fire and Rescue Chief Jeremy Loving tells KTVO the roof was leaking, and the building walls blew out when the roof caved in.
The church gas line was knocked out by falling debris, forcing authorities to evacuate residents in nearby homes. No one was injured in the collapse. The old gym is owned by Steve Upton of West Burlington. The building is not insured.
