KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Governor Jay Nixon stopped in Kirksville Monday to discuss healthcare.

He visited the Northeast Missouri Health Council's new building on Crown Drive and toured the facility that is still under construction.

“It's spring break in the legislature.  We're trying to look at what we've done and what we need to do in healthcare and this is a great example of a place that has both community support, has veterans support, has state support and federal support and what we're trying to do is make sure that this legislative session is one in which the state support continues and even moves forward.,” said Missouri Governor Jay Nixon.

Nixon spoke on his plan to bring more than $52.5 million to provide healthcare to parents in Missouri.  The funds will come from the Missouri Hospital Association and will not increase your state taxes.  His plan changes the eligibility from 20% to 50% of poverty level allowing more than 34,000 parents to receive healthcare.

Three of the Northeast Missouri Health Council's clinics will be consolidated under one roof in the new facility on Crown Drive.

The Kirksville Veterans Clinic, the Women's and Family Health Clinic and the Behavioral Health Clinic are currently operating in rented space. They will be moved into the new facility when construction is finished in the coming weeks.
