KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A Kirksville teenager is now safely back with his mother after the boy’s non-custodial father turned himself in to the Adair County Sheriff's Department Wednesday evening.

Thirteen-year-old Kurtis Shawn Couch was first reported missing by his mother, Angela Thompson, on Monday, after the boy's father, Troy Couch, failed to return the teen after an authorized weekend visit.

On Wednesday morning, Adair County Prosecutor Mark Williams filed a charge of Child Abduction against Troy Couch.

Sheriff Bob Hardwick told KTVO Couch and his son showed up at the Adair County Law Enforcement Center around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Hardwick said Troy Couch was taken into custody on the Child Abduction charge.

Kurtis Couch was released to his mother. He said the two hugged and cried briefly and then left.

Hardwick said the boy appeared fine.

It’s not clear where the two had been the past few days. Hardwick said he hadn’t had a chance to question Troy Couch yet.

He did say the boy made some reference about a hotel, but that’s all he knew at this time.
