KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The “Cat in the Hat” makes a special appearance.
Monday marked Dr. Seuss' 105th birthday and Tuesday, one of his most recognizable characters showed up at the Early Childhood Center in Kirksville.
All week the “Cat in the Hat” is traveling to cities across America spreading the word of the importance of reading.
“We want kids to do well, we want kids to be successful, we want kids to be daily readers. So we talk about the importance of reading and Dr. Seuss was such a good author,” said Vice President of the Missouri National Education Association.
Smith read a few books to students and also made them take the oath of reading. In the oath, the students pledged to read every day and every night.
The Missouri National Education Association represents 35,000 teachers and educational professionals.
