KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A special birthday celebration took place Tuesday afternoon in Kirksville.
Quota International is 90 years old, and a party was held at the club's regular meeting.
The Kirksville chapter has been around since 1981, when the late Alvina Britz founded the club. Five other original charter members were honored Tuesday.
Quota, which is a Latin word meaning 'to share,' helps serve the community and help those in need.
“We do a lot for the community, as far as speech and hearing impaired individuals, especially children. Hearing aides, computer assistance and anything along that line. And we also have a project to help the disadvantaged women and children in our community and do a lot of projects through victim support services,” said Kirksville Quota Club President Diana Beets.
In honor of each member earning between five and 19 years of service, $300 will be donated to an educational grant fund. Part of that money will provide a scholarship on a rotating basis to a communication disorder student at Truman State University, The University of Iowa and The University of Northern Iowa.
The club currently has no male members, but they're looking for men and women who want to help serve their community.
