MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA (AP) -- A court has lifted the ban on identifying the only arson suspect so far in Australia's deadly wildfires. Brendan Sokaluk is accused of lighting one of hundreds of fires that swept southern Victoria state more than a week ago. More than 180 people died.
Sokaluk's case went before a court packed with reporters and onlookers Monday -- but he didn't attend, choosing instead to remain in police protective custody.
A defense lawyer argued Sokaluk's name should stay a secret because of the intense public anger over his case. A magistrate ruled the man's name could be made public -- but says photos and his address may not be published.
