KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Missouri students prepared for higher education as part of College Goal Sunday.

The program is a way for college students to learn about financial aid opportunities and help incoming freshman fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. Financial aid staff from Truman State University and Moberly Area Community College helped students file online FAFSA applications in Kirksville Sunday.

Financial aid personnel say it's better to apply for FAFSA sooner rather than later.

“Now's the time of year if you're thinking about going to college yourself or you know somebody who's wanting to go to college, just encourage them to file FAFSA.  They can contact their high school or the financial office at the school where they plan to attend, or any school near them. Any financial aid officer would be happy to help any student with questions, you don't have to be attending their school,” said Kathy Elsea, the TSU Financial Aid Director.
