OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Fact Finder Team has discovered that the Internal Revenue Service has set up several tax programs to help those affected by the record floods of 2008.

For those that opened their home or used their car to aid flood victims, there are new deductions.

You may be able to deduct up to $2,000 if you housed flood victims.

If you used a personal car for charity work, the IRS will let you claim up to 41 cents per mile.

There are also programs for business owners who incurred damage to their property or lost business.

The IRS has set up two numbers for taxpayers with questions. If you haven't filed yet, call 1-866-562-5227. If you have already run into a tax problem due to the flooding, call the Taxpayer Advocate Service at 1-877-777-4778 or 1-800-829-4059.
