MACON, MO. -- With nearly two months left in the winter, we wanted to know how much salt road crews have left.
We checked in with the North Central District of the Missouri Department of Transportation. Officials there tell us they still have two-thirds of their original salt supply.
“It’s a good place to be. Yeah, it's actually probably better than we've been in past years so we're really happy. Hopefully we can go into the summer with a pretty good supply so we won't need to buy as much next year,” said MoDOT Maintenance & Traffic Engineer Travis Wombwell.
Wombwell says the salt they have now costs $50 per ton. It's expected next year salt will double in cost.
