The KTVO Newsroom received a call from a viewer who noticed a local grocery store advertising jars of peanut butter on sale. The viewer wondered if that was a good idea with the reports by health officials of contaminated peanut butter that has sickened people in 43 states.
Health officials tell KTVO the national recall does not include any type of peanut butter in jars. The warning only includes food in which peanut butter is an ingredient.
And if you're wondering about Girl Scout cookies with peanut butter as an ingredient, Girl Scout officials say neither of the bakers of Girl Scout cookies received their peanut butter from the supplier involved in the current peanut butter warning. For more information, click on the link below.
So the bottom line is: the Girl Scout cookies being sold are safe to eat, as is peanut butter you buy in a jar. Neither of those products are included in the national peanut butter recall.
