FORT DODGE, IOWA (AP) -- State regulators have fined a Fort Dodge nursing home $18,000 after investigating complaints of poor patient care.

Citations filed by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals say staff at Villa Care Center failed to get prompt care for residents who broke bones and had other problems, such as open sores on their body.

The incident involved five residents last year.

The nursing home has appealed the fine to the state.

Debra Koenig, the nursing home's administrator, released a written statement disagreeing with the state's allegations.
