OTTUMWA, IOWA -- If you think you've had enough coughing and sneezing, it's not over yet. Peak flu season is just around the corner.

According to Wapello County Public Health Nurse, Lynelle Diers, the highest number of influenza cases surface in February and March.

She told KTVO that there haven't been a significantly high number of cases so far in the county. She hopes that means residents of Wapello County have all received their flu shots.

This year the shot covers three different strains of the virus, and it's not too late to protect yourself.

"You can receive that flu shot any time during the season and if you have not gotten your flu shot, it is still highly recommended for you to receive the vaccine, especially anyone who is fifty and old and any school aged children," Diers said.

Diers also told KTVO that it's important to remember that the virus is very dangerous.

A healthy person can die from complications related to influenza.
