Winter creates all sorts of problems in the Heartland, slick roads, school cancellations and cars that won't start to name a few.

But for the staff at the Southeast Iowa Blood Center, winter means desperately low blood supplies.

Blood center staff tell KTVO that people get busy during the holidays and forget to donate, causing dramatic shortages of much needed blood during the winter months.

That is why every January, the Ottumwa media bands together and sponsors the River of Life Blood Drive.

Thursday you have a chance to help the Blood Center meet its goal of 60 units.
