KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- There’s a bit of positive economic news: at least two retail chains are considering possibly opening up shop in Kirksville.
Nothing is carved in stone just yet, but City Manager Mari Macomber told KTVO a representative from Dunkin' Donuts has said the company would like to open a store in Kirksville.
The second chain expressing interest in Kirksville is Maid-Rite Corporation, a diner franchise.
Macomber said the Dunkin' Donuts people would like open their operation in Kirksville sometime this year.
"If you watch any of the news or just television, you'll see Dunkin Donuts is one of those that is promoting itself as a business that is going to stand the changes in the economy. So, I think that'll be a good thing for us," said Macomber.
Macomber said that Maid-Rite is looking for an area investor to head up the franchise.
Again, she stresses that neither of these deals is finalized, but she's hoping at least one of them will come through for Kirksville.
She also told KTVO Kirksville's sales tax revenue for December 2008 was up slightly from December 2007, so Kirksville seems to be holding its own right now.
