DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- A finalist for a seat on the Iowa Court of Appeals pleaded guilty to drunken driving after she drove off a road in Dallas County in 2006.

The Des Moines Register reported that Janece Valentine, a Fort Dodge Lawyer, was arrested on Oct. 12, 2006. According to court records Valentine's blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.

Valentine is one of three finalists for a seat left open by Judge Terry Huitink, who retired Dec. 31.

Valentine told the Register she's disclosed her conviction to the nonpartisan state commission that selected her. She says she regrets her actions.

A spokesman for the governor,Troy Price, says the governor is aware of Valentine's record and will interview each finalist before he makes a decision.
