KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The Timber Ridge Community Church in Kirksville might have a few things in common with other churches around town. But there's one thing that definitely sets it apart from the rest---its location. Every Sunday, the church holds its worship service in the Downtown Cinema.
“It's being done different places around the country. Churches are meeting in theaters for several reasons. Theaters in communities are places where people feel comfortable to gather, and it takes away some of the stigma that can go with some churches. Some people have a hard time entering churches, and Timber Ridge wanted to be a place where anyone could go and feel comfortable,” said Senior Pastor Sam Fulkerson.
Timber Ridge is 13 years old, and has been meeting at the theater for the last several years. Pastor Sam tells KTVO the church is praying for God to present them with a building of their own. Until then, they will continue to hold services in front of the big screen each Sunday at 9 and 10:30 a.m.
