OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Tuesday was a busy day for the Ottumwa Salvation Army.
Cars filled the parking lot for the annual Christmas distribution.
Needy families received bags filled with holiday food. The sack included all of the fixings for a nice Christmas meal.
The gifts made residents smile as they went on their way knowing their Christmas would be a little brighter.
Captain Jamie Pennington told KTVO that it's donations from residents that make it all possible.
"All the money that you put in the red kettles pay for this as well as other things we do through out the year," Pennington said.
Families started registering to participate in the distribution back in November. Pennington said they simply demonstrated a need for the Salvation Army’s help.
Folks also got to pick out some toys for their kids.
